Does anyone know of a Mental Health Club at any schools they know? Is this a thing?
I’m in my University’s Multicultural Center and there are many clubs here. Even a Women’s club, an LGBTQ+ club, and a kina activist/serve club. Though, I don’t feel like I can relate or connect with many of these clubs. Then I thought of a Mental Health club idea; I’d be interested in that.
I’ve always been interested in psychology and sociology, mental and emotional health, and how anxiety, depression, and mental disorders affect an individual’s confidence, moods, and self-image.
So, hypothetically, If I were to start a club like this I’d call it the “Psychology and Mental Health Club”, PMHC for short. It would be open to all people who have ANY mental health/emotional disorders; like……..
- Anxiety/Anxiety Disorders
- Depression
- ADHD/ADD,
- Eating Disorders
- Bipolar Disorder
- Autism (though, I would encourage that maybe an Autism club could be made too if the population of Autistic people in the school is on the bigger side.)
- Borderline Personality Disorder
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
- Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
- Schizophrenia
- All other mental health disorders that I didn’t list already
- AND people who are interested in psychology or sociology. Whether their major or minor is in either of these fields or not, as long as they support the people listed above and they are interested in general psychology and /or sociology, they are welcome.
This club would be good because:
- The school, high school or college, would give their students the opportunity to connect and support n feel supported by others who can understand and relate to them better.
- Not only that, but this club could give them a type of “home base” to feel safe to go to when they feel overwhelmed or in a crisis.
- It might be easier to make friends with people who can relate to you better!
- For the people who are interested in PSY and SOC and who may or may not also have one of the above mental health/emotional disorders; this club would be a safe place to talk about the problems these people have so people who are more “normal” can ask questions n learn!
- And even as a group, the club can make posters of typically asked questions with the answers to either hang inside their club room or around the school.
bc, we all know it gets a little annoying and frustrating to hear the same questions all the time
