“A boat is safe in a harbor, but that’s not what boats do.”

— David Hogg

What is this supposed to mean in the context of gun control? You lost on here. Please explain.

I rechecked where I got the quote from, an interview of David Hogg by Pod Save America the Podcast, and the correct quote is “A boat is safe in a harbor, *but that’s not what boats are made to do*”

sorry about that.

And, the question the host asked was, “What’s your message to other young people who are potential activists, but might be afraid to sort of get into the public arena and deal with these assholes who are saying all kind of horrible things?”

So, the quote is more about speaking out and having the courage to stand up for what you believe in, and not exactly gun control, per say. But the “what you believe in” for these “potential activist”,  would be gun control and gun policies. That’s, at least, how I perceive the meaning of the quote.

If you want to find out more of the context for the quote, you can look up “Pod Save America” on Spotify or the iTunes store, go to the latest episode “Witch hunt!”, and skip to 49:43, this is where one of the hosts starts the question where David Hogg then immediately starts to answer at 50:11, and he says the exact quote at about 50:43.

I highly recommend listening to Pod Save America and the many other Podcasts that Crooked Media has to offer.

Again, I’m sorry I left out part of the quote, my bad.

I hope this explains the quote better and you have a good rest of your night! :)
